Research Information

Altmetric have published their annual list of which academic articles, according to their database, got the most attention this year from the mainstream media, blogs, Wikipedia and social networks, as well as amongst a more academic audience in post-publication peer-review forums and research highlights.  Ten articles with a University of Cambridge author are included and eight of these (80%) are published under an Open Access license. This compares to 38% in the rest of the top 100.

The list is determined based on the articles that rank the highest according to the Altmetric score, which is designed to provide an indicator of the volume and reach of the attention a research output (in this case, an article) has received.  This list in no way reflects the quality (high or low) of the articles included; it just provides an indicator of what was widely discussed and shared online.  Authors from over 100 countries contributed to the articles that make up the 2015 Top 100, and evidence of extensive international collaboration can be found in many of the articles – including some papers that listed over 600 contributors.
